Soil

Roses prefer acidic soil of pH 6.5 (sand) but will tolerate alkaline soils up to pH 7.5 (chalk). Mix 25 lts farmyard manure, or pulverized tree bark with bone meal, in soil before planting. Broadcast rose fertilizer in early Spring.

Tolerant of Poor Soils, so broadcast rose fertilizer in early summer as well.

Large, almost single blooms of rich golden-yellow paling to primrose.

Flowering is in the Spring only. Very fragrant.

Comment

Very profuse blooms on a vigorous, upright plant with stems dark green and rather thorny. This is the best known of the 'Fruhlings' roses and it makes a fine flowering shrub.

Good for Hedging. Woodland and covert planting.
