Soil

Roses prefer acidic soil of pH 6.5 (sand) but will tolerate alkaline soils up to pH 7.5 (chalk). Mix 25 lts farmyard manure, or pulverized tree bark with bone meal, in soil before planting. Broadcast rose fertilizer in early Spring.

Tolerant of Poor Soils, so broadcast rose fertilizer in early summer as well.

Foliage

Drooping leaves are slightly glossy and darkish green, with hints of copper when young.

Flower Colour in Season. Hips

Blooms are small, double, pinkish-lavender and produced in drooping clusters.

Flowering is in the Summer only. Slightly fragrant.

Comment

Broad, hooked thorns on long, pliable wood. Very profuse when blooming in July. Quite hardy, an outstandingly useful climbing rose.

Climber or Pillar rose.
