This Rose Class has the following Species with their cultivars:-

During the evolution of the Centifolia roses, some created whiskers that were multiple stiff bristles through to soft downy glands resembling moss; starting in the 1700s.
Moss Old Garden Roses:-

  • Often lax shrub roses with moss-like, furry growth on the stems and calyces.
  • Mostly dark green foliage.
  • Semi- to fully double, usually fragrant flowers are borne in clusters of 3 or more on very thorny shoots from second-year wood during the summer.
  • Use in a bed.

Pruning requirement:-

  • For Maintenance - Immediately after flowering during the late summer season, prune the main stems back by 0.25 to 0.33 as necessary, reduce sideshoots by 0.66.
  • For Renewal - Cut out up to 25% of the oldest stems; then cut back the rest by 33%.
