Soil

Roses prefer acidic soil of pH 6.5 (sand) but will tolerate alkaline soils up to pH 7.5 (chalk). Mix 25 lts farmyard manure, or pulverized tree bark with bone meal, in soil before planting. Broadcast rose fertilizer in early Spring.

Tolerant of Poor Soils, so broadcast rose fertilizer in early summer as well.

Foliage

Mid-Green leaves plentiful with a fern-like quality both in appearance and to touch, turning bronzy-orange in autumn.

Good Autumn Foliage.

Flower Colour in Season. Hips

Large quantities of medium-sized, primrose-yellow blooms, when open slightly cupped, with a mild fragrance.

Flowering is in the Spring only. Slightly fragrant. Ornamental hips display.

Comment

Upright-growing bush which is densely thorny and the stems are bronzy-brown in colour. This rose also bears small, dark red hips in late summer.

Good for Woodland and covert planting.
