Bamboo Family:-
Bamboos are " perennials growing in clumps or patches, with hollow woody stems ( and so used as canes in gardens), sheaths on the main stem and flat leaves. Rarely flowering in Europe, where several species, natives of Asia, are naturalised, usually in or near parks, gardens or waste ground. Few vernacular names are used in Europe, but some Japanese names are given here.

The Society was formed by Michael Hirsh in 1985, and was called The Bamboo Network. It amalgamated with other European societies in 1986, and was renamed The European Bamboo Network in order to differentiate it from the Australian Bamboo network. In 1989, the European Bamboo Network reverted to its former regional basis, and the British society was renamed The Bamboo Society (EBS Great Britain). The Society is affiliated to The Royal Horticultural Society.
